AUTHOR - EDUCATOR Content Developer
writing coach
I am an author and educator based in New Jersey. My favorite genre of writing is multicultural books that appeal to the imagination and create a sense of nostalgia.
As a Storyteller
My goal is to create a brand of narratives that appeal to diverse cultures. I create content that is unique and often laced with humor. My hope is to create spaces of joy that inspire the genius in others. I tell stories in a variety of modalities: event planning, living museums, web design and development, professional development, oral storytelling, and content writing.
Published Books
I remember when I wrote my very first novel. It was a romance novel set amidst a backdrop of warm Caribbean and African landscapes. If I may be candid, I was nervous about having to pen my thoughts to paper, but I knew that the things we regret most about life are the things we were too scared to try. Shortly after publishing, I was nominated by Foreword Reviews for excellence in Romance Writing. Since then, I have created a variety of text that can be used to supplement literacy instruction especially for diverse learners.
"Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing."
--Benjamin Franklin
Details Count
As storytellers, when we write, our pen becomes the lens of a camera with which we capture experiences. Every stroke, every word, every color and texture must create vivid pictures in the mind of the reader. Every detail counts. The time of a reader is precious and must never be wasted. The reader must carefully be transported to a world of their imagination, a world where their senses are aroused and where they remain captivated.
Tutor Me: Writing
For English Learners
Strategy: Visual Support
Imagine moving to a country where you do not speak the language. At first you will feel completely lost, unable to ask for directions or to express yourself in writing. English learners go through the same challenge and anxiety.
One way to help is through the use of visual support. Instead of trying to define a dog, cat, apple or mango, say it with a picture. Research shows that it reduces the linguistic load on a learner and it helps them better understand without having to translate. A picture is still worth a thousand words.
Success is - liking yourself,
liking what you do and
liking how you do it.
